Nathan Knutson
Piano
Acclaimed for his masterful command of technique and sound, Nathan Knutson is particularly noted as an interpreter of a vast range of musical genres “...allowing him to be versatile, understanding and equally comfortable with composers and styles that are very different, making his rendition of a wide variety of repertoire natural, thoughtful, and very musical.”
Earning highest marks in chamber music and solo performance, Dr. Knutson holds a Doctorate in Sacred Music, a Master's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he studied with internationally renowned faculty including Paul Barnes, Antonio Pompa-Baldi and Emanuela Friscioni. As chamber musician, Nathan has coached with notable artists including the late Leon Fleischer, Paul Kantor, Virginia Weckstrom, Michael Tilson-Thomas, and John Corigliano. Additionally, Mr. Knutson attributes much of his technique to his teacher’s teachers: Joseph and Rosina Lhevinne, in pedagogical lineage with Rachmaninoff, Rubenstein, and Scriabin.
As seminary professor, Dr. Knutson holds the Francesco Chair of Sacred Music at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary (Philadelphia) and teaches a wide variety of courses in Church music, with particular focus on “Singing the Mass”, the pipe organ, Gregorian chant and Sacred polyphony.
